Literature Text

You took a step out of the overheated club and breathed deeply, happy to escape the stench of sweaty bodies and alcohol. You couldn't seem to understand why your friends continually dragged you to these places, especially Alfred, being that you hated them. You were beyond infuriated with them all and had to slip away into the back and out the back door for fresh air and solitude. Nobody knew that you were back here. Nobody but yourself, at least. You checked your phone to see what the time was and sighed. 11:27 at night. You leaned your head against the wall of the club and put your phone in your pocket, feeling the beat of the music vibrate your head.

That's when things started to go wrong for you.

The instant you heard the footsteps coming from the street you should've gone straight back inside the club and sought help from anybody. But no, you picked your head up and were met with the silhouette of whom you believed to be Alfred.

"Alfred? Is that you? What are you doing back here? I thought for sure you would've been lapping up all the girls fawning over you and daring you to dance with your shirt off." You say, getting up from against the wall. Eventually, the figure walks into focus and you can make out the details of him.

For one thing, this man sure looks like Alfred, but there are a few differences.

His hair is reddish-brown instead of the blonde that always reminded you of the beaches you two would visit so often. His eyes are blood red, and are staring at you as though they're trying to burn a hole and look deep into your soul. Perched on top of his head are black sunglasses, not his usual seeing glasses that without he's as blind as a bat. He's giving you a devilish grin as he looks you up and down.

"A-Alfred? Is that really you?" You ask, feeling yourself grow tense as this figure inches closer to you. He takes one of his arms from behind his back and leans against the wall, blocking your only means of escape, while his other hand stays stationary behind his back.

"Well, I'm Alfred, just not the Alfred you're thinking of." He says, a sly tone in his voice. You gulp.

Whoever this guy is, he's obviously bad news. I need to get out of here.

"Well then…which Alfred are you?" You ask. You try to run but you're suddenly paralyzed with fear. The man in front of you laughs a little.

"You'll see in due time." He says, taking his free arm off the wall and moving the dark sunglasses down over his eyes.

You take this opportunity and finally figure out how to move your legs again. You burst into a sudden sprint, but this guy in front of you is fast. His arm is out again, jutting into your gut. He's not only sent chills down your spine, he's managed to knock the wind out of you as well. He leans in to your ear.

"Don't even think about it, b---h." He says. Your (e/c) eyes widen in shock as he slings you back, and he smirks again as he sees the sheer terror in your eyes. Before you have a moment to gather what just happened, he pulls a bloody bat from behind his back and grasps it firmly.

CRACK!

That's the last thing  you remembered hearing as a searing pain swept over you, especially in your head. You fell to the ground with a thud, landing on the left side of your face, which wasn't a very good measure since you'd just had a baseball bat cracked down onto your skull. Your vision blurred on this man until finally you gave in to blackness and felt your consciousness slip away.

"Get up." A stern, rough, harsh, and seemingly familiar voice commanded.

Slowly you opened your eyes, expecting to be blinded by a bright light, but in fact the room you were in was rather dark, damp, and cold. Your head was throbbing and as you tried to move your hand to comfort your head, you were stopped by the fact your hands were bound together and chained to a wall behind you. Your eyes focused after a while and you were met with the face of the same man from the night before.

"W-where am I?" You ask groggily. His facial expression quickly hardened and his hand drew back, and in an instant you were hit with his hand and a stinging pain on your right cheek. You let go of a little scream of surprise, and this man looked at you angrily.

"Don't speak out of turn, answer all my questions, and do as I say, got it?" He asks, a stern tone in his voice. You're shaking now, too afraid to speak to him. His hand draws back and you're hit on the other side.

"Answer me, d----t!" He shouts angrily at you. You have a few tears streaming down your face now.

"I-I understand." You say. You're trying to hide the fear that's welling up inside you, and for the most part you can. You see "Alfred" smirk a little as he stands up straight.

"Good. You're not as stupid as I thought you would be, (Name). Alright, now let's-,"

"Aaaalfieeeeee….are you home?" An overly-cheery male voice calls from upstairs. You see "Alfred" mouth a curse word and he grabs you by the collar of your shirt, staring into your pleading (e/c) eyes.

"You stay down here and keep your mouth shut, because if you even try to make so much as one single noise or a move I swear I'll beat you so badly you won't even be able to stand sitting where you are now." He growls, then flings you against the wall. You whimper a little, quietly enough to escape his  hearing range, and watch as he goes up the stairs and the lock to the door clicks shut.

You stay in your position, whimpering, silently crying, and trembling. You can't seem to make heads or tails of your situation. You suddenly hear footsteps coming from right above your head, being that you're locked in the basement/torture room, and you immediately tense up as they stop right in front of the door.

"Hey Alfie? Is there somebody down there?" He asks. You hear footsteps grow closer to the door and a groan, most likely from "Alfred."

"No there isn't, and even if there was, what gives you the right to know?!" "Alfred" questions angrily.

"Sorry. I was just curious. Anyway, I wanted you to try some cupcakes that I made. Please, follow me~." The other voice says. The footsteps shuffle away from the door and you're left alone again.

You pretend to toy with the idea of making a daring escape by scaling the wall and going through the basement window, but you're too weak right now to even think of it. You hadn't eaten since you had been at the club, and based on the minimal amount of light the windows were letting through, you could tell it was high afternoon.

Your stomach was growling and your head was still throbbing. Worse, if "Alfred" came down and saw you trying to escape, he would throw a fit and beat you blood red. You were absolutely petrified of him and the aspect of being beaten. Millions of questions buzzed through your mind. How did you get here? What was this place? How long had you really been unconscious? Why did this person look so much like Alfred? How far away was home?

THUD!

Your thoughts are interrupted by the disturbing sound of something hard landing on the ground fast not so far away from you. You can hear shuffling footsteps from upstairs and something being dragged around. After a few minutes, you can hear a muffled cry of joy, and footsteps encroaching the door again.

You freeze completely and feel as more tears stream down your face.

Click.

The door swings open and lets some light stream in. You see the shadow of an averaged-height man, peering around the staircase curiously.

"Hellooooo? Is anybody down here?" He asks. You freeze, to afraid to answer the calls. If "Alfred" was up there and conscious of what was going on, he'd be down there and hitting you so fast you wouldn't know it came until the day after. You hope that your omitting silence will push away whoever this encroaching person is.

However, your theory backfires. Much like a child, the omitting silence piques the curiosity of the mind belonging to the person at the stairs, who makes their way down rather slowly and cautiously. Through your blurred vision, due to the constant crying, you can make out a fuzzy looking pink-and-purple man. He seemingly perks as he looks at you and rushes over to you.

"Poppet! How come you didn't answer me when I called if anyone was there?" He asks. You close your eyes and look down.

"I-I was afraid Alfred would hear me…" You say very quietly. You hear the man in front of you let go of a chuckle and go to the back of you, messing with the chains on your hands.

"Well, you don't need to worry about him right now. He's…unable to comprehend the situation right now." The man says.

Click.

The cuffs on the chains release themselves and you are free to wipe your eyes of the tears, finally clearing your somewhat foggy vision.

The man re-appears in front of you, and the first thing you notice are his eyes. They're blue with sporadic bits of pink in them, and as he looks at you those bits of pink are swirling in his eyes. He has messy, strawberry-blonde hair that hangs down shaggily into his face and he's got a goofy grin on his face. His face rings a bell to you, but with the pounding in your head you can't make heads or tails of who he is. The bright, neon-blue bowtie on his neck doesn't help you either.

"I'm quite sorry poppet, but I missed your name. Do tell, what was it again?" He asks, the smile still on his face.

"My name is (Name)…(First Name) (Last Name)." You say, starting to get up a little. You feel the man's hand on your elbow as he steadies you up.

"Well it's a pleasure to meet you, (Name). You can call me Artie~." He chimes. That's where you recognized him from! He looked like Alfred's older brother, Arthur! The strange thing was he was and wasn't Arthur all at once…the thought made the pulsation in your head even louder. As you stumble up the stairs, your necklace falls out from under your (f/c) shirt. It's a simple double-chain necklace of a dog tag and a key. Artie catches a glimpse of it.

"Say, that's quite an interesting necklace you have. Do tell, where on Earth did you get it from?" He asks, a gleam in his eyes. You look down at it and take hold of the charms.

"This? My mother gave it to me before she died…it's the last thing that I have of her." You say. He perks up for a moment.

"That's quite a sad way to get a necklace…how did your mother die?" He asks, curiosity in his voice. You get up the stairs and glance into the kitchen where you're met with an unconscious "Alfred," tied to one of the cabinets. You sit on one of the couches in the living room.

"She was killed one night on her way home from a friend's. Walking home and some guy jumped out and stabbed her to death. Never found the killer or any trace of who he was." You say, sighing. He sits across from you and leans forward, taking in every word.

"Well, at least you're not alone, right? Don't you have your dad at home to keep you company, poppet?" He asks. You shake your head.

"Dad was a dropout. Don't know who he was, never met him, and quite frankly I don't care to. Obviously I wasn't that important to him, so why should I stay awake worrying over him? He obviously doesn't care." You say, disgusted with your father.

"What was your mother's name, do you remember?"

"Yes, I do…her name was (Mom's Name). She was really pretty. People said we looked a lot alike."

For a moment, a devilish grin escapes Artie's face, but it soon fades as he gets up and makes his way to the kitchen, beckoning for you to follow.

"Well, moving on to a better topic, why don't we chat over some cupcakes I brought~?" He asks. Your eyes widen and the mere mention of food, but you stop cold when you catch sight of the unconscious "Alfred" again.

"I'm too afraid…I won't go in if he's there." You say, pointing your trembling finger at "Alfred." Artie smiles a little.

"You'll be okay…it's not like you'll be seeing him for much longer. Anyway, take a seat." He says, but his smile does not fit with his tone of voice. There's something strange about the way he's smiling, almost like a Cheshire cat, but you shake it off as soon as you catch sight of the brightly colored cupcakes making their way toward you. Artie puts the tray down and plucks one off of it.

"Take whichever one you like, and have as many as you want. I don't mind, in fact I like baking cupcakes, so the more you eat the happier I am." He says, peeling the wrapper off of one of the cupcakes. You look at the one perched right in front of you and can't resist the urge. You lash out for it, being you're starving, and without a moment's haste the paper is off and you've bitten into it. Your eyes widen in surprise and you let out a happy groan, ecstatic you've finally been able to eat something. Artie smiles at you.

"I take it you like them, poppet?" He asks, a grin on his face. You merely nod your head up and down ferociously as you dive in for another.

The only thing that bothers you about these cupcakes is that they're a little too sweet.

"Say Artie…how do you make these? They're really good." You say, a smile on your face. He laughs a bit and taps you on the nose.

"They're a special recipe that if I told you, you'd never eat them again." He says a little too brightly. Your eyes widen in shock and you resist going for another, realizing what he's done.

The cupcakes are drugged.

It's not like you have enough time to rush upstairs to the bathroom and force yourself to vomit, your already pounding head it starting to echo in your ears like a drum and the world suddenly spins and comes out of your focus. You feel as though you want to get sick and scream at the same time, but nothing around you makes sense and quite frankly you're a bit scared.

The last thing you see before blacking out it Artie, a Cheshire cat grin on his face and an 8 inch knife in his hand.
Oh my word this is a monster for a first chapter.... @.@

Aaaanyway, I decided to attempt another more-than-one-shot! This time it's with dearest Artie~.

I know the title doesn't make sense right now, but trust me, it will become more clear in time.

I have no idea how long this is going to be, but I do hope that you all like it! :D

Please let me know if there are any mistakes in this. Thanks~!
